5 players you forgot were called up for the Lions in 2013 - including Wales legend

A total of 45 players were called up to the 2013 Lions squad as injury ravaged the squad throughout the tour.

Leigh Halfpenny has deservedly picked up the player of the series crown, while George North and Alun Wyn Jones were two who shone on the biggest stage of all.

Called up to play in Brumbies game but stole the show for his hair-combing on the field, not his rugby. An abundance of speed and can finish but is raw and doesn’t relish defensive duties.

Everybody remembers Billy Twelvetrees surprise call-up to the squad, but it is less well remembered that Barritt was also added. The straight-running centre answered an emergency call to cover midfield injuries while on England duty in Argentina but his limitations and reliance on a crash-ball approach were exposed.

In May 2013, Hartley was sent off in the Aviva Premiership final against Leicester and banned for 11 weeks after being found guilty of verbally abusing a match official. Despite already being photographed in full kit, this act cost Hartley his place in the 2013 British and Irish Lions tour to Australia.

He copped an 11-week suspension and missed the Lions tour as a result. His omission four years later by Gatland meant he retired having never been a Lion.
