All Blacks star overtakes legendary Springbok in record books

Sam Darry’s 26th minute try set up Barrett to move into second place on Super Rugby’s all-time points list, surpassing South African marksman Morne Steyn’s 1,551 points.

Barrett finished with six successful conversions, contributing 12 points overall. He still has ground to make up on the all-time leader, though, with All Blacks great Dan Carter sitting first on 1,708 points.

Barrett, who won World Rugby Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017 and was nominated again in 2018, is only the second player to claim the award in back-to-back years, following former teammate Richie McCaw.

Meanwhile, Steyn’s honours include an Under-21 World Cup, three Currie Cups, three Super Rugby titles, a Super Rugby Unlocked crown, a Tri-Nations title, a French Top 14 championship, and the unique distinction of being the only player to win two British and Irish Lions series with the host nation.
