Andy Farrell makes statement on his Ireland future after Six Nations 

The 50-year-old guided Ireland to a fourth Triple Crown in five years following Saturday’s impressive 43-21 win over Scotland in Dublin.

However, Ireland were denied what would have been the third Six Nations title of Farrell’s reign after France finished top of the table.

Farrell has transformed Ireland since taking charge in 2019 and is currently contracted with the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) until the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

Speculation around his future has intensified in recent weeks after he was linked with a return to Gallagher Premiership side Saracens once his current deal expires.

Farrell played down those reports last month, suggesting they were simply a case of “people putting two and two together and making five”.

But he has now confirmed that discussions with the IRFU over his long-term future are approaching.

“We will have a conversation, we’ve already spoken about having a conversation,” Farrell said.

“That won’t be too far away, so we’ll see how that goes.”

Farrell’s reputation has soared during Ireland’s recent success and his achievements have not gone unnoticed in England.

There are believed to be several admirers of Farrell within the Rugby Football Union — particularly with Steve Borthwick under major pressure following England’s inconsistent performances.

Asked if he would like to remain in charge of Ireland beyond his current contract, Farrell made it clear how much he still enjoys the job.

“You know that I love this,” he said.

“There’s all sorts of stuff that needs to be talked about, I’ve no doubt.”

With Ireland continuing to dominate the northern hemisphere and England searching for answers, Farrell’s next move will be closely watched on both sides of the Irish Sea.
