They’ve gone from teenage sweethearts to one of England rugby’s power couples.
Andy Farrell, Ireland's head coach, found time earlier this year to witness his youngest son, Gabriel, light up an under-13 schools rugby fixture for Blackrock College—a performance that might hint at a promising future in the sport.

"You put us under pressure, mate!"
Reflecting on the day, Farrell jokingly revealed the stakes Gabriel unknowingly raised during the Six Nations. "I actually said to him after the game, ‘You put us under pressure!’ Imagine him winning this morning and us not winning later. I’d have been massively in trouble!”
A Pedigree Worth Watching
Gabriel, eligible to play for Ireland through both residency and ancestry, showcased raw talent during the match, hinting at a bright future. With big brother Owen Farrell holding England’s all-time points record, the youngest Farrell has rugby greatness in his DNA. Reports suggest Leinster already has him on their radar as a potential star.
Blackrock’s Rugby Legacy
The under-13s clash was a curtain-raiser for the iconic Senior Cup final between Blackrock and St. Michael’s at the RDS, a spectacle drawing thousands of fans annually and broadcast nationwide. It highlighted the intense rivalries that make Irish rugby so unique.

"This is what makes Irish rugby special"
Farrell couldn’t help but marvel at the energy and competitiveness of junior rugby. “Did you see the rivalry at under-13s this morning? It’s magnificent. That’s what makes Irish rugby special,” he said, underlining the sport’s deep cultural roots.
Gabriel’s journey is just beginning, but with his pedigree, the Blackrock name behind him, and Ireland watching closely, the youngest Farrell could be one to watch in the years ahead.
