"Arundell has to play" - Will Greenwood selects much-changed England XV for second test

England opened their Australia tour by falling to a dismal 30-28 defeat against a 14-man Wallabies side in Perth, despite scoring two late tries.

Lock Darcy Swain was shown a red card in the first half, with three other home players injured before the break.

Despite being down to 14, Australia came from behind to make it 6-6 at half-time before Ellis Genge went over for England early in the second half.

But the Wallabies bounced back, with Jordan Petaia, Folau Fainga'a and Pete Samu scoring in an impressive comeback.

England fought back late on with youngsters Henry Arundell and Jack van Poortvliet scoring consolation tries.

And it's that late show that inspires a number of the World Cup-winners changes.

Greenwood wrote: "As a former centre who is protective of specialists at 12 and 13, I have always felt that with Smith and Farrell it is a case of 'or', not 'and'. You have to select one of those two, not both.

"Regarding the selection for next week, I feel Fraser Dingwall with a run of games could be a serious option for England at the World Cup, whether at 12 or 13."

Greenwood wrote: "Henry Arundell now has to play, not only because of his wonder try but because while Jack Nowell and Joe Cokanasiga might look physically different, they both want to be bumping people and working in traffic.

You need an outlet, someone floating around the back who has pace. Jonny May might be available, but Arundell could fill that role."

Greenwood wrote: "I would also like to see Ollie Chessum start. When Curry was first picked back in 2017, Jones selected him because of the player he could become rather than who was the better England player at that moment. I feel similarly about Chessum: he is gold dust.

"You have to get him out there and there may be a window to do so if Jonny Hill is cited."
