Bath confirmed that Dunn appeared before an independent disciplinary panel after being sent off for a dangerous tackle, contrary to World Rugby Law 9.13, during the match against Newcastle.

The hearing was chaired by Matthew Weaver KC, alongside panel members Mick McArdle and Vicky Irwin.

Dunn accepted the charge and was subsequently handed a three-match suspension. However, the ban can be reduced to two matches should he successfully complete the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme (CIP).

The suspension means Dunn will definitely miss Bath’s upcoming clash against Bristol Bears on May 29, as well as the June 6 meeting with Leicester Tigers.

A third fixture could also be added to the suspension depending on whether the 32-year-old completes the intervention programme in time.

The news comes as a significant blow for Bath, with Dunn having played an important role throughout the campaign thanks to his physicality, leadership and set-piece consistency. The veteran front-rower has become one of the club’s most dependable figures over the past decade and remains a hugely influential member of Johann van Graan’s squad.

Bath are currently battling through the decisive phase of the Gallagher PREM season, with squad depth set to be tested further by Dunn’s absence.
