Gabby Logan’s son Reuben walked away from the England pathway to represent Scotland – although his senior international options remain open.
The Sale Sharks back-rower previously represented England at U18 level and was named in their U20 elite player squad.
However, Logan changed direction ahead of the 2025 U20 Six Nations and chose the country represented by his father, 70-cap Scotland legend Kenny Logan.
Explaining his decision to Six Nations Rugby, he said: “I've always been a Scottish fan.”
He added: “When you see your dad play for Scotland and you see all the rugby things around the house from his career growing up it's obviously quite inspiring.”
Why he quit England
Logan admitted his involvement with England initially helped his club ambitions.
“When I was younger, I was involved in the English [age-grade] set-up because I wanted to sign for an English club,” he explained.
However, things eventually changed.
“As I got older, opportunities in England weren't necessarily there,” he said.
“I was named in the England U20 elite player squad at the start of the season, but I wasn't necessarily getting what I thought I was going to get in terms of an opportunity.”
Logan subsequently lined up for Scotland U20 throughout the Championship.
His dad certainly approved.
“Dad's pretty happy, I think,” Reuben joked. “I think he pretended when I was with England that he was happy with it, but he wasn't really.”
Could he return to England?
Despite representing Scotland at age-grade level, Logan has not been captured by their senior side.
Under World Rugby eligibility regulations, his U20 appearances do not by themselves prevent him representing another country at senior level.
That leaves England as an option, alongside Scotland and Wales.
His Welsh connection comes through his maternal grandfather, former Wales football international Terry Yorath.
For now, though, Scotland appears firmly in front.
Logan said choosing them was “quite an easy choice”, adding: “Top of my list going into the games is going to be singing Flower of Scotland.”
The youngster has since joined Sale Sharks, signing from Northampton Saints in 2025.
Meet his twin sister Lois
Reuben isn't the only talented young sports star in the Logan family.
His twin sister Lois Logan is an accomplished showjumper who qualified for the Horse of the Year Show as a teenager.
She has also swapped the showjumping arena for the racecourse, taking part as an amateur jockey in the Magnolia Cup at Goodwood.
Gabby previously revealed that the twins' sporting paths have taken the family in very different directions.
Speaking about watching Reuben play for Scotland, she said: “I just want him to do well. If he continues with this career path, it's gonna be hellish 10 years ahead.”
With Reuben continuing his rise in professional rugby, his international future could become an increasingly interesting talking point.
