Completed Saracens signing for next season falls through

LOU had already confirmed the news on social media, stating: “In order to fulfil his desire to return home to New Zealand, Jermaine Ainsley has been released from his contract with immediate effect.

“The president and the entire club would like to thank him for his dedication and commitment during his two seasons with LOU!”

The 30-year-old is currently managing a significant back injury, which has led to his return home ahead of schedule. The former Australia international, who has also represented the All Blacks XV, signed for Lyon from the Highlanders in the summer of 2024.

Ainsley has not played since Lyon’s Top 14 meeting with Toulon at the end of February.

Saracens had confirmed his arrival in February, but the club has now announced that the deal will not go ahead. Their statement reads: "Saracens can confirm that, due to personal reasons, Jermaine Ainsley will return to the Southern Hemisphere following the early termination of his contract with Lyon.

As a result, he will not join the club for the 2026/27 season. We wish him all the very best for the future."
