CONFIRMED: Semi Finals revealed for EPCR Challenge Cup as Dragons chase underdog glory

The semi-finals are set for the opening weekend of May, as Ulster Rugby, Exeter Chiefs, Montpellier Hérault Rugby and Dragons RFC battle it out for a place in the final at San Mamés Stadium. A blend of European pedigree and genuine underdog energy has set the stage for what promises to be a compelling final four.

Ulster will host Exeter Chiefs in Belfast, after the Irish province powered through the knockout rounds with statement victories over Ospreys (28-24) and Stade Rochelais (41-24). Richie Murphy’s side have earned home advantage and will be desperate to add silverware to a trophy cabinet that has remained untouched in Europe since 1999. Ulster have enjoyed a season to remember with a rejuvenated return to their very best, coupling this extended run in Europe with a solid URC campaign.

Over in France, Montpellier welcome Dragons in a classic David versus Goliath encounter. Two-time winners Montpellier (2016 and 2021) have bulldozed their way into the semi-finals, dismantling USA Perpignan (53-13) and Connacht Rugby (45-22) in the knock-out stages with ruthless efficiency. The French outfit have the credentials to go all the way, with an array of England ex-pats forging a solid foundation with some breakout French talents.

But the story of the competition belongs to Dragons. Ranked 13th ahead of the competition, the Welsh region have defied the odds with back-to-back away wins, stunning Stade Français 36-31 before edging Zebre Parma in another thriller (35-32). Now, just one win away from a first-ever European final, the Men of Gwent are riding a wave of momentum few, if any saw coming.

With a place in Bilbao on the line, the Challenge Cup has once again delivered a perfect mix of chaos, quality and knockout drama.
