Courtney Lawes offered shock move back to the Gallagher Prem

According to a report from the Mail Online, the futures of Mako Vunipola and Courtney Lawes are being closely monitored as contract talks across the Channel approach a crucial stage.

Deals in the Top 14 and Pro D2 are often finalised later in the season, leaving several overseas-based English players unsure about where they will be playing next year. That uncertainty has alerted a number of Premiership sides.

Leicester Tigers are understood to be among the clubs interested in Vunipola. The experienced loosehead prop is currently with Pro D2 leaders Vannes and could emerge as a target as Leicester prepare for changes in their front row.

Wales international Nicky Smith is set to leave the Tigers at the end of the season to join Sale Sharks, meaning the club are assessing possible replacements with plenty of experience.

Lawes has also been linked with Leicester. The former Northampton Saints captain is currently playing for Brive and has previously indicated that he would prefer to remain in France. However, his long-term future is uncertain with the club still yet to confirm a head coach for next season.

Both players stepped away from international rugby after the 2023 World Cup, but their experience remains significant.

Lawes finished his England career with 105 caps and five British & Irish Lions Tests, while Vunipola made 79 appearances for England and played nine Tests for the Lions.
