Dan Carter and four other rugby legends who came out of retirement

The former fly-half, widely regarded as one of the greatest All Blacks of all time, is yet to reveal in what capacity his return will be.

But, posting on Instagram yesterday, he hinted at a comeback of some sort.

“I’ve just finished a kicking session," he told followers.

"I’m in the middle of training for a little comeback on the rugby field actually. In exactly what capacity, I can’t really say too much at the moment.”

He then went on to explain how to pull of his renowned banana kick, which Carter famously did against the Highlanders in 2007.

Before hanging up his boots, the playmaker was heavily linked with a move to America to play in Major League Rugby.

Despite initially retiring in 2007 after the Rugby World Cup, Robinson  Robinson came out of retirement at the age of 35 to play for National League 2 North side; Fylde. The speedster helped the Lancastrians, who had former England boss Brian Ashton as Director of Rugby, to promotion in his one season at Woodlands.

The Wales legend made a return to Welsh rugby in 2017, coming out of retirement to play for his beloved Amman United. The former Wales and British Lions star stunned spectators as he took the field for his home town side in the National League 3 West B match against Burry Port. He then played for them in a final at the Millenium Stadium.

The former England fly-half came out of retirement at the end of 2015 to join Premiership side Newcastle on a three-month contract. The 35-year-old, who started his professional rugby career with Leicester in 1998, initially cancelled a move to London Irish to hang up his boots, but was lured back and guided the Falcons to safety at the Exiles expense.

Matfield initially retired in 2011, but returned to rugby in 2014 and made his way back into contention and represented the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup in 2015. He then played for Northampton Saints during the 2015/16 Premiership season before hanging up his boots for good.
