Duhan van der Merwe announces exciting family news with wife

Scotland wing Duhan van der Merwe and his wife Nika van der Merwe have announced they are expecting their first child together, with the couple revealing their baby is due in early January.

Nika, a South African-born content creator, social media strategist and founder of She Wanders Club, shared the emotional news on Instagram alongside a series of family photos featuring the couple with their two dogs and ultrasound scan images. 
She wrote:

"We've waited so long for you. Baby van der Merwe incoming early Jan."

The announcement was quickly met with an outpouring of support from the rugby community.
England fly-half Fin Smith commented: "Congrats guys ❤️",
Edinburgh teammate Marshall Sykes also sent his best wishes, writing: "Congratulations both of you so happy for you."
Former Scotland international Amy Costello, posting through her Rugby With Amy account, simply said: "Congratulations!!!"
Hundreds of friends and supporters also filled the comments section, with one writing: "Most favourite news this whole year!! Congratulations," while another added: "OMG! Congratulations mummy & daddy! I am welling up here!"
Duhan and Nika married in 2023 after several years together and have regularly shared glimpses of their life in Edinburgh, where the Scotland wing plays his club rugby. 
While Van der Merwe continues to prepare for another huge season on the field, the couple now have an even bigger milestone to look forward to, with Baby van der Merwe expected to arrive early in 2027.
While the powerful winger continues to make headlines on the pitch, it is this personal milestone that has captured the attention of supporters, with thousands joining teammates, friends and fans in celebrating the couple's news ahead of the arrival of Baby van der Merwe, expected in early January.
