England forward Sam Underhill makes decision on his future

The wrecking-ball back-rower has put pen to paper on a fresh deal that will keep him at The Rec until 2028, extending his stay in Blue, Black and White beyond a decade.

Underhill, 28, has become synonymous with bone-rattling defence and relentless physicality since arriving in 2017. He has racked up 117 appearances for Bath to date, alongside 48 caps for England, underlining his status as one of the game’s premier opensides.

Having made his professional debut aged just 18, Underhill cut his teeth with Gloucester and Ospreys before finding a long-term home in the West Country — and it’s a place that clearly means more than just rugby.

“Bath has very much become home for me, my wife and our son,” he said. “It's a brilliant club and city, full of wonderful people.

“I feel incredibly grateful to be able to continue my journey here and look forward to what the future holds for us.”

For Head of Rugby Johann van Graan, tying down Underhill was a no-brainer.

“Sam is a world-class player and renowned all over the world for his collisions in contact,” said van Graan.

“But at our club he is a very important part of our journey both on and off the field. We are excited that Sam is continuing his journey with us.”
