England player ratings vs Wales, August 17th 2019

Here's how we rated the England team:

15 Elliot Daly - England's second top metre maker with 46. However, once again not great in defence, making just one tackle. 6

14 Anthony Watson: A late addition to the team. He didn't look anywhere near his best, apart from one break that almost got him a try in the second-half. Also got a soft yellow card. 6

13 Jonathan Joseph: Happy to provide a link rather than take centre stage, but that made him pretty useless when England really needed someone to inspire them. 5.5

12 Piers Francis: Good showing from a fringe player knocking on the door of selection. Made his tackles and a few decent break. 6.5

11 Joe Cokanasiga: Not used enough going forward and missed two tackles in defence. Overall, he was well marshalled by the Wales defence. 5.5

10 George Ford: Uninspiring. Far from his calm and collected performance at Twickenham a week ago. Poor by his high standards, but did score all of his sides points. 6

9 Willi Heinz: Looked very comfortable on the international stage once again but just couldn't open up Wales. 6.5

4 Joe Launchbury: Played like a flanker. Every time England broke the line, Launchbury was the man on the inside shoulder. 7.

5 Maro Itoje A lot of effort. Didn't all go his way though. 7 

6 Courtney Lawes  Must have lungs the size of oil drums. Got through a huge amount of work and made 15 tackles. Still, don't like seeing him played out of position. 7

7 Lewis Ludlam: Put in a couple of thumping tackles, 18 to be exact, but as Wales got on top at the breakdown he could do little to stop it.. 7.5

8 Billy Vunipola: Never has a bad game, but this was certainly close, missing four tackles. 6
