England team to play Japan: 2022 Autumn Nations Series

England head coach Eddie Jones has selected his England team to play Japan in the Autumn Nations Series on Saturday.

The Aussies' side lost 30-29 to Argentina last Sunday, a sixth defeat in ten matches this year.

Eddie Jones said:

"We’ve worked hard this week to improve on last week’s performance. We’ve taken a good look at our preparation and we are happy with our position going into the game," said Jones.

"We’ve made a few changes to the side as we play these four games in November. In particular with Manu we are balancing his workload.

"Japan are a very good and intriguing side. They play a unique type of rugby based on continuity and team cohesion and we’ll have to be at our best against them at Twickenham on Saturday."

The fixture between England and Japan takes place at Twickenham Stadium in London on Saturday 12 November and kicks off at 3:15pm (GMT).

5 retired rugby players who still have it, including Mike Tindall

We take a look at some retired rugby players who still boss can still boss the field when they choose to take their boots off the hanger.

#1. Mike Tindall

Recently, a Mike Tindall XV squared off against a James Haskell XV as part of the RFU’s Play Together, Stay Together campaign at Aylesbury Rugby Club.

Taking to the pitch were a range of ex-internationals including Phil Vickery, Matt Banahan, Lee Mears, Delon Armitage and Tom Wood alongside Mike while James and Alex Payne coach from the side-line.

The game ended 36-36 following a last-gasp try from England legend Tindall, which you can watch below.

Mike Tindall Facts:

Tindall is married to Zara Phillips, the daughter of Anne, Princess Royal, and the eldest granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
He is regarded as one of the best players to never wear the Lions jersey, However, he did play against them as part of a Barbarians XV in 2013.
Tindall, whose nose was famously broken at least eight times during his rugby career, underwent a surgery in 2018 which fixed the fractures.
Mike’s sometimes nickname is “The Fridge” due to his sizeable 6ft 2inch bulk.
Every year since 2013, Mike has hosted an event called ISPS HANDA Mike Tindall Celebrity Golf Classic, where several celebrities come together to raise money and awareness for disability groups and in aid of curing Parkinson’s disease

#2. Dan Carter

World Cup-winning fly-half Carter came out of retirement to play for his boyhood team Southbridge RFC.

He played the full 80 minutes and scored six of his seven kicks at goal as his side beat West Melton 54-14.

Carter revealed he intends to play a bigger part at his local club moving forward.

#3. Andy Goode

In 2019, Andy Goode came out of retirement for one night and one night only! He played in a charity match to raise funds for Tom Day, a police officer who died and he didn't disappoint.

#4. Phil Vickery

The World Cup-winning tighthead has played in four or five charity games this season and doesn't appear to have lost a step.

He retired with 73 England caps and five Test appearances for the Lions, three of them against Australia in 2001 and two versus the Springboks in 2009.Advertisement

Although he missed the 2003 Grand Slam campaign through injury, Vickery returned to play a key role in England's World Cup triumph in Australia.

#5. Shane Williams

Five years after retiring, Shane Williams made a shock return to Welsh rugby on the weekend as he came out of retirement to play for his beloved Amman United.

The former Wales and British Lions star stunned spectators as he took the field for his home town side in the National League 3 West B match against Burry Port.

#6.Tom Varndell

Just last week, Varndell had a try-scoring debut as he touched down the crucial score in Oxford Harlequins 24-17 win against Bracknell.

The 37-year-old winger has had a glittering career which has seen him lift the Premiership title twice, represent his country in different formats of the game and set some individual records, notably as the top tier’s leading try scorer for a time.

Varndell made a standout debut as he scored the decisive score for Quins, who play in the London and South East Premier. It’s certainly a far cry from Twickenham.
