England legend Courtney Lawes could be lining up a sensational return to top-flight rugby, with reports in France claiming Stade Français are seriously considering a move for the former Northampton Saints icon.

Midi Olympique say the Paris club have bumped Lawes to the top of their shortlist following the exit of second-row Baptiste Pesenti. The 36-year-old is currently at Brive in Pro D2, where he’s been turning heads with a run of impressive performances.
Stade are believed to be exploring a contract that includes a major mentorship role, helping develop their highly rated young duo Kamilo Turagacoke and Reinhardt Botha. His prior relationship with Paul Gustard during England’s 2016–18 cycle is also seen as a potential factor in getting a deal over the line.
Lawes remains one of English rugby’s all-time greats. The 105-cap international spent his entire senior career at Northampton Saints, racking up more than 260 appearances and winning both the Prem and the European Challenge Cup. A three-time British & Irish Lion, he retired from England duty after the 2023 World Cup but has continued to thrive in France.
RUCK sources also suggest Lawes could be tempted back to the Gallagher Prem, with both Newcastle Red Bulls and Sale Sharks monitoring developments closely should he decide to return home instead of heading to Paris.
A move—either back to the Prem or to the Top 14—would add another remarkable twist to one of the most storied careers in the modern game.
