Exeter Chiefs confirms coach has left the club with immediate effect after 15 years

After 15 years of service, Exeter Chiefs have confirmed that long-serving Head Coach Ali Hepher has officially left the building.

The 49-year-old, who’s been a key figure in the club’s rise from Premiership hopefuls to European champions, has decided to take a break from rugby and step back from the demands of the professional game.

“A True Chief”

In a statement from the club, they said:

“After a long and distinguished tenure, Ali has decided to take a break from the sport to spend more time with his family and step back from the demands of the professional game.”

Having first arrived at Sandy Park back in 2009, Hepher played a crucial role in building the Chiefs into one of the most formidable forces in English and European rugby. His fingerprints are all over their domestic and continental success.

From Premiership glory to that unforgettable European title win, Hepher was the tactical brain behind Exeter’s distinctive playing style. Whether it was running lines or breaking down defences with his chalkboard wizardry, the man knew how to win.

Chiefs Chairman and CEO Tony Rowe CBE paid tribute to Hepher’s legacy:

Director of Rugby Rob Baxter, who worked side-by-side with Hepher for well over a decade, added:
