"Faf de Klerk's Flick" - Nic White's Best Wind-Up Moments after Wallabies retirement

White dutifully answered the call from Wallabies head coach Joe Schmidt, to take back up the halfback mantle and don the nine jersey throughout the early rounds of the Rugby Championship. White started the four most recent Australia Tests, including the opening round victory over South Africa to ignite the competition. White bagged a try against Argentina in the hard-fought win in Townsville, and bows out after the second clash against Los Pumas, which saw a dramatic 28-26 Argentine win in Sydney.

White has long been considered as one of rugby's 'marmite' players - being that you either love him or hate him for his on-field antics. The epitome of a wind-up merchant, White defined what it meant to be a modern day half-back, with high-quality chat in abundance at the expense of his opposite man. White made career rivals out of Faf de Klerk, Aaron Smith and Ben Youngs on the Test match stage, and the 35-year-old bows out after his 77th and final Wallabies cap.

White also enjoyed quite the club career so far, with a tenure that has spread across the Brumbies, Montpellier, Exeter Chiefs and Western Force. White's career featured plenty of on-field accolades, yet the scrum half is also well remembered for the following incidents that showcased his 'competitive edge'. Here's a look back at Nic White's most controversial moments, as one of rugby's greatest characters bows out from the Test match stage.

In a memorable match against the Springboks, Faf de Klerk made light contact with White's face, as the Wallabies nine looked to clear the ball from the back of a breakdown. White's dramatic reaction quickly did the rounds on social media, as the halfback delayed his drop to the deck and clutched his face, which led to de Klerk receiving a yellow card. Many fans and pundits felt White's response was theatrical, turning the incident into a widely discussed moment in a recent Rugby Championship clash.

During a high-intensity Bledisloe Cup clash, White's vocal complaints at the breakdown prompted All Blacks' captain Scott Barrett to cheekily shush him mid-game. Barrett cleared White back a considerable distance from the back of a breakdown, with White protesting in abundance at the excessive shunt down-field.

Barrett was quick to silence the vocal scrum half, with a finger over White's lips and saying 'shhhh' to the scrum half. The lock followed this up with a later 'shhhh' to White, which was captured by the cameras much to the disgruntlement of the scrum half.

After a controversial time-wasting penalty against Bernard Foley decided the outcome of a Rugby Championship clash against the All Blacks, White didn't hold back for his post-match discussion with referee Mathieu Raynal.

White marched up to the referee with every intention for a fiery on-field protest, however, the match official swiftly retorted and put the scrum half back in his place with a dressing down that went viral around the rugby social spheres. Fans got a glimpse of the Wallabies’ fiery scrum-half at his most animated, yet White could not get a word past the referee - showing how you cannot go past the authority of a rugby union match official.

Just this past Summer, White was quick to throw a barb at the British & Irish Lions before the first kick off out in Australia. White spoke to the media ahead of the opening Lions' tour match, as his Western Force hosted the opening contest in Perth. White made a few quick quips to unnerve the Lions, who had just lost their pre-tour send-off match against Argentina in Dublin.

At the heart of the pre-match antics, was White's desire to "bash a couple of their blokes on the way in and bruise them… by the time they get to the Wallabies then job done." White knew that he would come back up against the Lions later down the line, as the tour progressed into the Test series against the Wallabies, with these early jabs thrown to off-set Andy Farrell's men as they arrived down under.
