Saracens have confirmed that versatile front-rower Sam Crean will be packing his bags and heading to Ulster following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season — and he may not just be changing clubs.

The 24-year-old, who can cover both loosehead prop and hooker, came through the Saracens junior academy ranks before stepping into the senior setup in 2019. Since then, he's chalked up over 30 appearances for the Men in Black, including a standout European debut against Racing 92 at just 20.
Crean’s journey also included loan spells at Ampthill and — perhaps tellingly — Ulster, where he impressed during a short stint in Belfast. That experience could now open doors internationally too, with the front-rower eligible to switch allegiance and represent Ireland under World Rugby’s birthright transfer rules.
With competition fierce in the England front row, the Irish pathway may well prove more fruitful — and with a move to the URC, Crean could be on the radar of Andy Farrell before long.
Reflecting on his North London chapter, Crean was full of gratitude.
"Thank you to everyone who has helped me at this club on my journey from turning 18, to the man I am today.
This club is an amazing place to be and I’m privileged to say that I’ve been able to be here for as long as I have been. I’m looking forward to the next opportunity that is around the corner."
Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall paid tribute to the departing prop:
“Sam is a brilliant person and we know he will be a great success at Ulster. His appetite to learn will stand him in good stead and we wish him all the best for his new challenge.”
