The La Rochelle scrum-half hurt himself during the warm-up before France’s 50–40 defeat to Scotland, reportedly after tripping near television equipment placed at the edge of the pitch.

France’s heavy loss in Edinburgh ended their hopes of completing a Grand Slam in this year’s Six Nations. However, Fabien Galthié’s side can still secure the title if they beat England on Saturday at the Stade de France.

Le Garrec had already been left out of the matchday squad for the Scotland game, with Antoine Dupont and Baptiste Serin preferred. While warming up, he attempted to chase down a long kick from a teammate but fell near the stands, which are set some distance from the playing surface.

According to reports from RMC Sport, the 23-year-old stumbled and struck a television transmission box, injuring his ankle. Although it cannot be definitively proven that cables around the pitch caused the fall, they are considered a likely factor.

The incident could prove costly for Le Garrec. The sprain rules him out of the decisive clash with England and may delay his return to action with La Rochelle, while also denying him the chance to earn what could have been his 15th cap for France.

His absence opens the door for Maxime Lucu, who returns to the national setup. Lucu had previously served as Le Garrec’s backup during the November Test against South Africa before starting matches against Fiji and Australia.
