Gabby Logan's son told to quit Scotland for their Rugby World Cup rivals

Despite switching from England to Scotland at Under-20 level, Reuben Logan's international future is far from settled.

The 20-year-old back-row forward, son of broadcaster Gabby Logan and former Scotland winger Kenny Logan, represented England at Under-18 and Under-20 level before changing allegiance to Scotland ahead of the 2025 Under-20 Six Nations. He has since established himself as one of Scotland's brightest young prospects while beginning his professional career with Sale Sharks.

However, that move to Scotland does not permanently tie him to Gregor Townsend's side.

Why England could still call him up

Under World Rugby's eligibility regulations, playing age-grade international rugby does not capture a player's international allegiance.

A player only becomes tied to a nation by playing for that country's designated senior national team, next senior representative team, or an officially designated Olympic sevens team in a capture match.

As things stand, Logan has yet to make a senior appearance for Scotland, meaning he remains free to represent any nation for which he qualifies.

He is eligible for three Six Nations nations

Logan has one of the most intriguing eligibility stories in British rugby.

Scotland – through his father, Kenny Logan, who won 70 caps for Scotland.
England – having been born and raised in England while progressing through the English pathway.
Wales – through his maternal grandfather, former Wales football manager Terry Yorath.

That means Steve Borthwick, Gregor Townsend and, in theory, Wales could all select him for Test rugby if he continues his development.

Scotland remain favourites

While Logan is technically free to switch again, Scotland remain firmly in the driving seat.

He made the decision to leave England's pathway because he saw a clearer long-term route to international rugby with Scotland, where he started every game during the Under-20 Six Nations before continuing his rise with Sale Sharks.

His father has spoken publicly of his pride at seeing his son wear the thistle, and there has been no indication that Logan is looking to reverse that decision.

But until he wins his first senior Scotland cap, the door remains open.
