Henry Pollock’s bumper new Northampton Saints contract reportedly contains unusual clauses allowing the England star to explore opportunities away from the traditional 15-a-side game.
The 21-year-old confirmed his Northampton Saints future this week, putting pen to paper on a new deal with his boyhood club.
As first revealed by RUCK earlier this month, Pollock had agreed to remain at Franklin’s Gardens despite significant interest from elsewhere.
The new contract is understood to be worth around £400,000 per year, almost tripling his previous Saints salary.
However, some fascinating details have now emerged about the flexibility built into the agreement.
According to the Daily Mail, Pollock has clauses which allow him to explore wider opportunities, including potentially playing rugby sevens at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Hearn reveals Pollock clauses
Pollock is represented by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Talent, with the boxing promoter praising Northampton for their approach during negotiations.
“I was really pleased with Northampton,” Hearn said. “They really stepped up financially. They were smart and commercially open-minded because they know the importance of keeping Henry at the club.
“Henry likes sevens and he obviously loves the thought of winning Olympic gold.
“That doesn’t mean that he’s going to leave the principal format, but the deal with Northampton allows him to look at other opportunities around that.”
Hearn suggested that could include “a sevens tournament, or an all-stars game in Las Vegas”.
The clauses are particularly interesting given Pollock’s previous comments about his future.
Before signing the extension, the Lions forward admitted he wanted to “explore new sports” and different opportunities.
Pollock rejected huge offers
Hearn has also revealed there was interest from elsewhere, including approaches from domestic clubs and overseas.
Pollock ultimately prioritised remaining at Northampton despite what Hearn described as “multiple seven-figure offers”.
The England international has already won 13 caps and toured Australia with the British & Irish Lions, while his commercial profile continues to soar.
Hearn has claimed Pollock has landed seven-figure commercial deals in the past six months.
For now, Saints remain the priority – but his new contract ensures some intriguing opportunities remain firmly on the table.
