Lawrence, prior to Christmas, was eyeing up a potential international debut for Wales during this year’s Six Nations, but after head coach Steve Tandy announced his squad last week, he continues to be ignored.

During the BKT United Rugby Championship (URC) season, to say he’s been consistent would be an understatement. He’s been an absolute machine for the Arms Park side, and has been since he re-joined the club following Jersey Reds’ collapse in 2023.

Speaking on his ambitions of becoming an international, Lawrence added: “Oh, of course, why wouldn’t it be?

Take his performance against Benetton Rugby last Saturday, the 27-year-old made an impressive 16 tackles, 21 carries, and made 35 metres in his side’s nervy but much-needed triumph over the Italian side.

In comparison to Dragons RFC, Aaron Wainwright, Lawrence has made more tackles (133) than the Leicester Tigers-bound player (83) so far this URC season.

Back in December, his stats showed him as the player with the most carries and tackles in the URC, and it’s the same picture in the EPCR Challenge Cup. He’s continued that form impressively through the festive period and at the start of 2026.

It felt like the kind of stats which would have made him hard to ignore for selection for the upcoming Six Nations.

His incredible work rate would have almost certainly brought him into the discussion, but the number eight will have to wait for either a call-up or until the summer when Tandy selects his 2026 Nations Championship squad.

Time will tell, but if he continues these impressive, consistent showings, then it may be unjustifiable for his absence.
