Ireland Squad Update: Bundee Aki to return

Farrell will be buoyed by the return of two of his first choice centres, as Bundee Aki and Robbie Henshaw are both set to join up with the group at the IRFU High Performance Centre in Dublin. Aki has missed the first three rounds of the 2026 Six Nations, having served a three-match suspension for descent. Aki was reported to have verbally disrespected the United Rugby Championship match officials, after Connacht were defeated by Leinster several weeks ago at the Dexcom Stadium.

Having sat out the opening trio of Tests, Aki is now eligible for a return to the international stage, alongside fellow midfield star Robbie Henshaw. The Leinster man has been out of action with a knee injury, yet made a successful return to the pitch in his provincial colours this past weekend. Henshaw started in the 12 jersery for the Dubliners' defeat to Cardiff, with strong signs of a Ireland squad return.

The same goes for Leinster and Ireland's versatile back-line operator Jimmy O'Brien, who too made his return from injury upon the trip to Wales. O'Brien gets the nod to return to the international squad this week, and will be clicking through the gears in the week ahead of Friday's Test with Steve Tandy's side.

There were a number of players released for URC action with their provinces this past weekend, yet not all will be returning to the squad. Leinster fly half Harry Byrne (concussion) has been ruled out, while Ulster's back row Cormac Izuchukwu continues his graduated return to play protocols and will join the squad alongside the other nine players who have also returned to camp. The team will be named on Wednesday afternoon, as Ireland look to continue their winning streak against Wales.

2. Award-winning form: He was named Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Men’s Player of the Year for his outstanding performances with Ireland and Connacht.

3. British & Irish Lions twice: Aki has toured with the Lions in 2021 and 2025, featuring across the Test series and scoring for the tourists in tour fixtures.
