For tournament debutants Brazil and Italy, their World Cup fate had already been decided last weekend and with neither team having won a World Cup match yet neither team was to progress further into the competition. With only each other left to play they play for pride and to come away with a World Cup match win under their belts.

The Italians started slow with the debutants Brazil taking advantage and had a real dominant first 10 minutes, opening the scoring seven minutes in with a successful penalty kick by Raquel Kochhann. Now behind the Italians looked to put points on the board. After a tough opening 10 minutes for the Italians, they got themselves over the try line with a try for Sara Mannini.
This seemed to open the floodgates for Le Azzure, scoring another 4 tries in around 15 minutes, with Valera Fedrighi finding her way over the white line 17 minutes in and Francesca Granzotto following 2 minutes later. Still in this try scoring frenzy, Vittoria Ostuni Minuzzi found herself over the try line twice is two minutes.
Towards the final 10 minutes of the first half Brazil did have a period of attack and get themselves over that try line however a knock on meant the try didn't stand. The momentum then swung back in the favour or the Italians who finished the half with Francesca Granzotto bagging her 2nd try of the game.
Despite the 6 try deficit, Brazil came out strong however the Italians pushed back scoring their first try of the second half, with Giada Corradini crossing the white line at the 48 minute mark. Just over ten minutes later, Vittoria Ostuni Minuzzi stormed over the try line for the third time bagging herself a hat trick. Similar to the first half, Italy had another goalscoring frenzy in the last ten minutes of the game scoring 4 tries, which included Francesca Granzotto bagging her third try of the game, Gaia Buso doing the double in the space of two minutes and then Sofia Stefan finishing the game off with a great try in the final moment.
