Who else makes Jonah Lomu’s dream backline? As you should well know by now, we’re big fans of fantasy rugby teams.
And in our time, we have seen some very good and very bizarre selections in equal measure.
Confirming that he knows more about rugby than the average player, Lomu picked VERY WELL, as you can see in the selection below
It’s not particularly defensively-minded, but with the attacking talents on offer, we don’t think that matters much.
Team first appeared in French Rugby magazine in 2022
BACK-THREE
- 15. Christian Cullen (New Zealand)
- 14. Jonah Lomu (New Zealand)
- 11. Émile Ntamack (France)
Lomu said: “When your taught to defend against someone you’re told to watch his hips because it’s the one place on the body when you’re running that stays in one place,
“The problem with Émile was his whole body shifted, including his hips, meaning when he ran he swayed from side to side so I was always like what the the hell am I going to do here.
"Cullen had a similar evasive running style and was magic when he had the ball in his hands.”
CENTRES
- 13. Tana Umaga (New Zealand)
- 12. Tim Horan (Australia)
HALFBACKS
- 9. Joost van der Westhuizen (South Africa)
- 10. Andrew Mehrtens (New Zealand)
Lomu said: " I remember Joost would be constantly talking, and I thought that man doesn’t shut up. I remember coming through the line during the World Cup final and there was no one there and then all of a sudden I went ‘Where’s my legs?’ and it was Joost [who tackled me] again,”
