Leicester Tigers statement: George Martin departs

The academy graduate, who burst onto the scene in 2019, has racked up 73 appearances and nine tries for the club, plus 21 England caps. Martin also played a key role in Tigers’ memorable 2022 Gallagher Premiership title triumph.

Currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, the 24-year-old is targeting a return before the campaign concludes—but it will be his last in green, white and red.

Head coach Geoff Parling admitted the club fought to keep their homegrown star:
“We’d have liked George to stay. He’s a top-quality player who came through our academy with many of the current group. We put a competitive offer on the table, but he’s chosen a different direction for the next stage of his career. We thank him for everything and wish him all the best.”

Martin’s next move is yet to be officially announced—but this is a major loss for Tigers.
