LIONS INJURY UPDATE: All the latest news on British & Irish Lions players with a number of Warren Gatland's players carrying injuries after the first test.

Failing his HIA against the Springboks is the latest knock the Welsh fly-half has taken on the tour.

So far in South Africa, Biggar has battled through the pain, suffering an ankle sprain as well as having a cortisone injection in his 'stiff and painful' knee.

The Welsh playmaker last suffered a bad concussion for Northampton In May, but this was only his latest head knock with Biggar suffering three concussions in just a five-month period back in 2020.

When asked about Biggar, Gatland responded: "We'll have to see. It's a tricky one"

It's fair to say, the 31-year-old is a major doubt for the second test.

The Lions have confirmed that the prop would miss the first test with what has been described as a 'minor shoulder injury'.

It is anticipated that he will be able to return to training at some point next week and no replacement is being called up.

“It’s really bad luck for Wyn and we all feel for him missing out on tonight’s game,” said Warren Gatland.

“However, we’re confident he’ll be back in training next week and have no plans to bring in anyone else at this stage. We're not sure about the second test.”

Lions assistant coach Gregor Townsend has said the teams ‘are still hopeful’ Russell will be fit to play again soon and revealed the number 10 will return to light training on Monday ahead of the second test.

On Russell’s injury, Lions coach Townsend said: We are now five, six days into his recovery. He had an injection into that area.

“He is out of his boot so he will start the rehab process gently and then we are hoping he will be back involved in full training.

“It’s unlikely he will be involved in the first Test but we are still hopeful he will be available for the last two.”
