Lions lock Ollie Chessum learns fate after being cited for dangerous tackle

They’ve gone from teenage sweethearts to one of England rugby’s power couples.
Leicester Tigers and England lock Ollie Chessum has dodged a suspension following his yellow card for a high tackle in Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership clash against Bath.

The 23-year-old was sin-binned early in the Tigers’ 43-15 defeat at The Rec after a high shot on Bath winger Will Muir.
Chessum was cited post-match under World Rugby Law 9.13 for dangerous tackling and faced a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.
Having already served a ban earlier this season — and completed World Rugby’s “tackle school” after a high shot against ASM Clermont Auvergne in the Champions Cup — the outcome was far from guaranteed. With both Leicester boss Michael Cheika and Lions head coach Andy Farrell watching closely, there was understandable concern.
But after reviewing the footage and hearing detailed evidence, the independent disciplinary panel dismissed the citing.
Panel chair Gareth Graham said:
“Taking into account all the circumstances of the case, including the relevant factors set out in the Head Contact Process (HCP), the panel dismissed the citing. The player is free to play with immediate effect.”
That means Chessum will be available for Leicester’s crucial final-round clash with Newcastle Falcons — a must-win if they’re to secure a home semi-final.
