A surprising number of huge rugby stars were in fact born or raised in the USA or one of their territories.
1. Tommy Seymour
The 32-year-old Glasgow winger boasts a rich and varied backstory, having been born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee for the first nine years of his life before moving to Northern Ireland via a spell in Dubai, where his father was based for work.
A pleasing aspect to Seymour's eclectic heritage is that he's Scottish qualified, his mother, Sue, being a born and bred Glaswegian. The winger went onto represent the men in blue 55 times, scoring 20 tims.
Seymour was also selected for the 2017 British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand, with the winger finishing the tour as top try-scorer after crossing the whitewash three times.
2. Sam Underhill
Underhill was born in Dayton, Ohio, in USA as his father Greg was stationed there with the RAF but the family moved to Gloucester when he was about 10-years-old.
At the age of just 17, Underhill made his debut for Gloucester before moving to Ospreys. He then subsequently joined Bath in 2017, making his international debut later that year.
Now established in England’s back row and having represented his country in a World Cup final, the 23-year-old is likely to feature for the British & Irish Lions when they tour South Africa in 2021.
3. Alex Corbisiero
Born 30 August 1988, the prop is the great grandson of Riccardo Corbisiero, who emigrated from Naples to the United States in 1923 and established Riccardo's – a restaurant well known for its continental cuisine – in Astoria, Queens in the early 1950s.
He was born in New York City to the restaurateur's grandson and his English wife, and immigrated to England with his parents shortly before his fifth birthday.
Following a stellar career with England and the British & Irish Lions, he is nowa frontman for NBC's rugby coverage and moves between New York and Miami.
4. Jerome Kaino
Kaino was born on 6 April 1983 at Lyndon B. Johnson Medical Center in Faga'alu, located in the U.S. territory of American Samoa as the third of six children. In 1987 at the age of 4, he and his family relocated from their home village to New Zealand.
The 37-year-old, who lifted the Webb Ellis trophy in 2011 and again four years later, joined French side Toulouse in 2018.
