LIST | 5 rugby legends who came out of retirement

Here we look at five rugby legends who just couldn't give up the game.

The former England fly-half still takes to the pitch when needed, most recently taking to the pitch last November in a charity match to raise money for PC Andrew Harper who was a policeman who was killed on duty. With a slightly more ‘average’ physique than most backs, Goode championed the amateur era of rugby his professional career.

Matfield initially retired in 2011, but returned to rugby in 2014 and made his way back into contention and represented the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup in 2015. He then played for Northampton Saints during the 2015/16 Premiership season before hanging up his boots for good.

Despite initially retiring in 2007 after the Rugby World Cup, Robinson  Robinson came out of retirement at the age of 35 to play for National League 2 North side; Fylde. The speedster helped the Lancastrians, who had former England boss Brian Ashton as Director of Rugby, to promotion in his one season at Woodlands.

England legend and World Cup winner Mike Tindall plays a selection of matches for Minchinhampton, the club close to his home.  The centre played outside centre for Bath and Gloucester, and won 75 caps for England between 2000 and 2011. He was a member of the England squad which won the 2003 World Cup.

The Wales legend made a return to Welsh rugby in 2017, coming out of retirement to play for his beloved Amman United. The former Wales and British Lions star stunned spectators as he took the field for his home town side in the National League 3 West B match against Burry Port. He then played for them in a final at the Millenium Stadium. He’s since played a further handful of games for the club.
