Warren Gatland has revealed the "very best case scenario" is that four-time Lion Alun Wyn Jones would be fit for the first Test against the Springboks on 24 July.
"He's going to be gutted," he added.
"I've spoken to the physios, they've spoken to Alun Wyn, he understands the very best scenario is he may get back for the Tests.
"We need to call someone and get them [Covid-19] tested and hopefully get them on the flight tomorrow.
"We're discussing names with the other coaches."
Below, we look at four players who could potentially replace the injured captain

Alun Wyn Jones replacement:

#1. Jonny Gray (Scotland)

  • Age 27
  • Caps 66
Against England in February he outplayed both Maro Itoje and Jonny Hill, who have made the Lions squad. It seemed Gray would be part of Gatland’s group himself, but it hasn’t happened. He’d have a point to prove here.

DID YOU KNOW? He is the younger brother of Scottish and British and Irish Lion international Richie Gray

#2. George Kruis (England)

  • Age 31
  • Caps 48
The 2017 Lion is back in the UK at the moment following his season in Japan with the Panasonic Wild Knights. He'd be an outside the box selection - but possibly a good one for Gatland.

DID YOU KNOW? Kruis was eligible to play for the Netherlands as his father, Leo, is Dutch

#3. Adam Beard (Wales)

  • Age 25
  • Caps 25
Standing at 6ft 8ins and weighing 19 stones, Beard could be just the sort of physical presence Gatland is looking for against the Springboks.

DID YOU KNOW? Beard made his debut for the Ospreys in 2012 having previously played for their academy team, Aberavon RFC and Birchgrove RFC.

#4. James Ryan (Ireland)

  • Age 25
  • Caps 25
Barely six months ago, Ryan looked a stone-cold certainty to tour. Perhaps we’d have all done well to remember that uncertainty is the only certainty there is when it comes to a Lions selection. He is still one of the best line-out forwards in the northern hemisphere.

DID YOU KNOW? He is the Great Grandson of Irish Politician and Easter Rising Revolutionary James Ryan
