LIVE Updates: Ultimate Sevens: Cardiff - Women's Division

With no half times, seven-point scores, time-out calls and varied conversion zones, this was sevens like no one had ever seen it before. Six brand new franchises made their debuts in Wales, following their week of preparations after first getting together in Madrid. The teams brought their unique stories to the Arms Park, with the very best of the world's sevens players unleashed in their new club colours, to form some incredible, never before seen combinations.

The first ever match in Ultimate Sevens history began with the hosts of the afternoon in Cardiff. The Celtic contingency of Clan Taran got the action underway in the Welsh capital, as they took on Sol Feroz, who brought the Latin fire with a crux of players from Spain and Argentina.

Ruby Nicholas of Sol Feroz got the honours of scoring the first ever Ultimate Sevens try, with a seven-pointer bagged under the posts, following a breathtaking run from half-way. Great Britain international Emma Uren then followed this up with a nice score in the corner, and converted her own effort for one extra point. After leaking two tries so soon, Clan Taran head coach and former South Africa international Phillip Snyman hit the big red buzzer on the touch-line podium for a time-out.

The team talk worked, with New Zealand international Eden Kilgour finishing a stunning wide arching run, yet could not nail the conversion. The momentum then swung back to Feroz, with Bienne Terita fending off a last ditch tackle to score, and added a one-point conversion. Terita then sustained an injury in the closing stages of the opening match, which was a tough blow for the Australian international.

The second match began with Albion Athletic piling on the pressure, as they took the fight straight to Pacific Current at the Arms Park. Australia star Georgie Lingham got the scoring underway for Albion, with a crash ball style finish from close range, before nailing the one point conversion. Yet the lead was short lived, as Kiiahla Duff spied a gap and weaved through for Current.

Duff added a two-point conversion, which saw the Current into the lead. This lead was then ever shorter lived, as Spain sensation Paula Requena raced along the touch-line to score an abrupt response, yet could not convert from out wide. After a quick time out, the record-breaking Australian Maddison Levi exploded along the wing for Pacific Current, yet was bundled into touch by Albion's hard-working defense. It was all smiles for Albion as they kept the Wallaroos star at bay, and scraped a narrow win in Round One.

Pacific Current have kept themselves alive to progress into the semi-finals, as they scored more points than the defeated Clan Taran. The losing side that scores the most points in their Round One match will progress, along with the three winning teams.

There was quite the hard-fought stalemate to begin this third match in round one, as Atlantic Novas and Foudre Bleue both gave away penalties in an early sparring match. The Novas struck first blood, with Faith Nathan on hand to score one of the more simple tries of the Australian's career, who added the conversion from out wide. The rain began to impact the match, as the ball slipped from the hands of a Foudre Blue player, and into the path of USA Sevens flyer Nia Toliver.

Toliver then nailed her one-point conversion, with extra salt in the wounds as Les Bleue called for the time-out. Atlantic Novas found themseleves down a player for the last minute, as Isla Norman-Bell was sent to the sin bin. With no points to their name, Foudre Bleue have been eliminated from Ultimate Sevens Cardiff, with Pacific Current progressing through on points scored.

After securing a spot in the semi-finals by the skin of their teeth, Pacific Current wasted no time in getting off the mark in the semi-final. Maddison Levi reminded the world as to why she is so revered, with a barnstorming carry that fended a Sol Feroz player head over her heels, in the lead up to assisting Isadora Lopes' try.

A missed conversion from the Brazilian kept the door open for Feroz, who responded with a seven-pointer from Ilona Zaishliuk of Ukraine. The Pacific Current floodgates were then opened, as Brazil's Oympic superstar Thalia Costa exploded along the touchline and rounded her way under the sticks for a second seven-pointer. Pacific threw their proverbial 'Hail Mary', as a stunning solo score from Brazilian star Bianca Silva gave the Current a late surge, which prompted a drastic time-out call from Sol Feroz.

However, Sol Feroz were able to hold their own and saw out the final minute to book themselves a place in the Women's Final.

Atlantic Novas exploded into the second semi-final, with the hot-stepping Fijian superstar Sesenieli Donu setting the tempo with a blistering seven-pointer under the posts. The Novas kept the pressure high, with Japan international Chiharu Nakamura fastest to react to a ball in the Albion back-field, and grounded the try to establish a healthy lead. No conversion followed from Nakamura, yet the Novas had all the momentum, much to the bemusement of Albion Athletic.

The time-out buzzer sounded for Albion Athletic, with the English-inspired outfit departing fresh from a seven-point score, as USA flyer Carmen Izyk broke free at the perfect time. However, Nia Toliver would have other ideas ion how this match would end, as the American international scored arguably the try of Ultimate Sevens so far, with a near whole-length breakaway along the left touch-line, that saw her fly past three helpless Albion defenders.

Then, to add the cherry on top of the cake, Toliver would gather a loose ball on the Albion 5m line, and score a second try to close out the win and secure Atlantic Novas a spot in the final.

It all comes down to this in Cardiff, as 'Free from Desire' blared around the sound system, accompanied by the crowd chanting. Plenty of nerves out on the Arms Park for the first ever Ultimate Sevens Women's Final, with some uncustomary drop balls giving the early goings quite the stop-start feel. The Novas were first across the whitewash, with Team GB star Ellie Boatman looping on to Nakamura's assist. The one-point conversion followed, for a slight lead under the lights.

It was then time once again for Nia Toliver to take centre stage, with the USA international scoring a stunning mirror image of her earlier end-to-end spectacular in the previous match. However, despite the dire straits for Sol Feroz, the underdogs kept fighting and grabbed a seven-point score from Megan Burns. The Ireland star wrestled her way over to score from close range, in a move much more commonly witnessed in the 15s version of the sport.

Even with this spark of hope, the Novas would be too powerful, and were back over to score shortly after the re-start. Faith Nathan delivered another moment of magic, as none other than Harry Potter actor Oliver Phelps watched on. With one last boot of the ball in to touch, Atlantic Novas took the women's crown from Ultimate Sevens Cardiff, with history made in the Welsh capital.
