Rugby Inside Line has reported that Gloucester is in the hunt for a hooker and Marx is their chief target. The 25-year-old, who plays for the Lions, is considered one of the best hookers in world rugby today with his ability to make turnovers a highlight of his game. 

The billionaire behind the team – David Argyle – told Fox Sports at the time that: “We are working towards making Sonny Bill Williams a Wolfpack player for 2020. We would love to have him join the Wolfpack family and we will pay whatever it takes to make that happen,” said Argyle. It's a deal that might still get done.

The lock has had a turbulent last few years and is a free agent once again after being released by Northampton last season. There is talk he could return to former club Newcastle Falcons to bolster their second-row ranks. His experience would make him an excellent signing for Dean Richards side.
