Newcastle Red Bulls have confirmed three new back-line signings following a successful summer trial. Harrison Obatoyinbo, Joel Grayson, and Sam Waugh have all joined the club on one-year deals.
All three featured in pre-season, with director of rugby Steve Diamond using the trial period to strengthen his back-three options.
Harrison Obatoyinbo
Wing/full-back Harrison Obatoyinbo comes through the Saracens academy and is the brother of Newcastle full-back Elliott Obatoyinbo. The 24-year-old joined Ealing Trailfinders from Saracens before moving to French sides Toulon and Stade Montois.
Sam Waugh
Full-back Sam Waugh, 20, arrives from Loughborough University. The sports management student stands at 6ft 6 and is expected to make a big impact in the back three.
Joel Grayson
Completing the trio, wing/full-back Joel Grayson is the twin brother of Newcastle team-mate Ethan Grayson. The 23-year-old Northampton Saints academy product, who is also the son of 2003 Rugby World Cup winner Paul Grayson, recently graduated from the University of the West of England and has also played club rugby for Old Northamptonians.
Diamond said:

“We’ve had a good look at all three lads during pre-season, and they deserve this opportunity.

“They’ve worked incredibly hard, they’ve all got ability and they will add to our options across the back three.

“It’s a big chance for all of them to push on with their professional rugby careers, and I’m looking forward to seeing their continued development over the coming weeks and months.”
