Newcastle Red Bulls have confirmed that head coach Alan Dickens has stepped down from his role today after reaching a mutual agreement with the club to pursue other opportunities.

Dickens first joined the organisation in July 2024 as an attack and defence coach at Newcastle Falcons. In October 2025, following the club’s takeover by new ownership and its rebrand as Newcastle Red Bulls, he was promoted to head coach after Steve Diamond was dismissed just one round into the 2025–26 season.
During his time at the club, Dickens worked closely with both players and staff through a period of significant change and development. The club has thanked him for his contribution during that time.
Before moving into coaching, Dickens enjoyed a professional playing career as a scrum-half. He represented Northampton Saints and previously played for Saracens, Sale Sharks and Leeds Carnegie, after beginning his career in the national leagues with Manchester Rugby Club and Stourbridge.
Stephen Jones will take over as head coach on an interim basis for the remainder of the current season.
