Six Nations issue statement after controversial Murrayfield ‘eye-gouge’

France back-rower Oscar Jegou has been cited following an alleged eye gouge during his side’s Six Nations clash with Scotland at Murrayfield.

The incident is said to have taken place in a maul involving Scotland hooker Ewan Ashman shortly before Darcy Graham crossed for his second try of the match on Saturday.
Television replays appeared to show the France flanker making contact with Ashman’s eye area during the build-up to the score.
Jegou has since been cited for an act of foul play under Law 9.12, which states that a player must not physically or verbally abuse anyone. The law specifically includes contact with the eye or eye area among prohibited actions.
A disciplinary hearing has now been scheduled for Tuesday morning.
A Six Nations statement confirmed:
“France (No.7) Oscar Jégou will attend an independent disciplinary hearing after he was cited for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.12 during the Men’s Six Nations Championship match between Scotland and France on Saturday, March 7, 2026.”
The hearing will take place via video conference in front of an independent disciplinary committee consisting of Simon Thomas (chair), Christopher Morgan, and John Langford.
Jegou is set to appear before the panel at 9:30am (GMT) on Tuesday, March 10.
