La Rochelle boss Ronan O’Gara has been hit with a double whammy after French rugby chiefs successfully appealed his original touchline ban.
The outspoken Irishman has seen his suspension extended from two weeks to four following a ruling by the appeals commission of the Fédération Française de Rugby.

Ironically, the extended ban comes as O’Gara has just joined ITV’s coverage of the Six Nations as a pundit — meaning he’ll be offering his trademark blunt analysis from the studio while watching on from afar at club level.
O’Gara was initially sidelined for an ugly confrontation with referee Jeremy Rozier after La Rochelle’s chaotic 53–33 defeat to Pau in round 11 of the Top 14. However, the governing body opted to challenge the original sanction — and won.
The former Ireland and British & Irish Lions flyhalf was found guilty of “showing disrespect towards a referee’s authority” after allegedly accosting Rozier following the final whistle.
The match itself descended into farce for La Rochelle. Flyhalf Antoine Hastoy was sent off inside the opening minute, before O’Gara himself was dismissed from the technical area in the 57th minute as tempers boiled over.
While O’Gara has already served the initial two-week ban, the successful appeal means he must now sit out a further fortnight, ruling him out of La Rochelle’s upcoming clash with Montpellier.
One thing’s for sure: whether on the touchline or on TV, Ronan O’Gara is never far from the headlines.
