Siya Kolisi intervenes after fan tackled by security following All Blacks victory

South Africa had just secured a thrilling 29-24 victory over New Zealand in Soweto, moving 2-1 ahead in the four-Test Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series, when chaotic scenes unfolded after the final whistle.

Footage shared on social media shows a supporter running onto the FNB Stadium pitch before being brought to the ground by security personnel.

However, Springboks captain Kolisi quickly made his way across and intervened.

Rather than allowing the situation to escalate, the 34-year-old helped calm things down before posing for selfies with the supporter.

The moment prompted a huge reaction from those still inside the stadium, with footage of Kolisi’s intervention subsequently spreading across social media.

It wasn’t the end of it either.

Moments later, a second, younger supporter managed to get onto the field.

Kolisi again embraced the situation – and this time went even further.

The Springboks skipper removed his matchday shorts, signed them and handed them to the youngster as a souvenir.

It capped a remarkable evening for Kolisi both on and off the pitch.

Speaking after the victory, Kolisi explained just how much playing at FNB Stadium and in Soweto meant to the Springboks.

“It was really special,” he said.

“We always say we won’t just say thank you in words, but through our effort. We were tested in that first 25 minutes, they came out firing, and we had to dig deep to fight our way back into it.”

Kolisi also spoke passionately about taking the Springboks to supporters who may not ordinarily be able to watch the world champions in person.

“They can’t afford to come and watch us play, but seeing that, and understanding the history of this place, the young people who fought so that we could be sitting here today, that’s why we wanted this game here.

“That’s what we play for, not just the people who can afford it, but everyone.”
