Bath Rugby attack coach Lee Blackett has been appointed as head coach and attack coach for England Men A’s clash against Ireland A later this month.

A Proven Track Record
Blackett played a key role as attack coach in England A’s 38-17 win over Australia A last November and will now take charge of the side as they prepare to face Ireland A. The 41-year-old has previously held coaching roles at Rotherham Titans, Wasps, and Scarlets before joining Bath in 2023.
England A’s Coaching Team
Joining Blackett in the England A setup are:
- Haydn Thomas (Exeter Chiefs) – Defence coach, resuming his role from the Australia A game.
- Louis Deacon (England Women) – Forwards coach, bringing his expertise from the Red Roses setup.
- Matt Ferguson (Northampton Saints) – Scrum coach, specialising in the role since 2018.
The RFU, in consultation with Premiership Rugby, has selected the coaching team, while England head coach Steve Borthwick and RFU Executive Director of Performance Rugby, Conor O’Shea, will determine the squad.
Blackett’s Reaction
On his appointment, Blackett said:
“I was honoured to be asked to take up the role. I really enjoyed being part of the England A coaching team in the week leading up to facing Australia A last autumn. Having that opportunity to work with quality players and staff was a hugely positive experience. To be asked to lead it is something I am really excited for.”
