Stuart Lancaster's assistant closes in on shock Gallagher Prem move

The Premiership side confirmed earlier this week that both Hewat and Brett Deacon will leave Geoff Parling’s coaching setup at the end of the season, prompting a reshuffle behind the scenes at Welford Road.

Hewat, who joined the Tigers ahead of last season, has been widely credited with transforming Leicester’s attacking output under both Michael Cheika and Parling. However, the Australian will return home at the end of the current campaign.

Attention has quickly turned to his successor, with fellow Australian Seib understood to be the leading candidate. Leicester have declined to comment on the reports, but the 51-year-old is expected to make the switch from Ireland to the East Midlands.

Connacht confirmed back in March that Seib would be leaving the province after a short but impactful spell, having linked up with Stuart Lancaster’s coaching team in 2025.

During his time in Galway, Connacht have enjoyed a marked upturn in form. They reached the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup and remain firmly in contention for a United Rugby Championship play-off spot, sitting just one point outside the top eight with three rounds remaining. A standout result came last weekend when they defeated the Stormers in Cape Town.

Seib arrives with a strong coaching CV and a varied playing background, having featured as a utility back for both Queensland and Glasgow. His coaching journey has included roles with the Queensland academy and the Brumbies in Super Rugby, where he oversaw the backs.

He also led Australia XV during their 2024 autumn fixtures against Bristol and England A, further underlining his growing reputation within the game.

If the move is finalised, Seib will inherit an attack that has shown clear signs of progress, with Leicester hoping he can continue that upward trajectory heading into next season.
