Known as one of the finest scrum specialists in the game, Jones is currently tied to the English Premiership club, meaning the WRU will need to strike a deal to bring the 43-year-old into Warren Gatland's backroom team.

A Legendary Career
Born in Abercrave, South Wales, on 8 March 1981, Adam Rhys Jones was a colossus of Welsh rugby. Standing at 5ft 10in and weighing over 19 stone during his playing days, Jones epitomised the art of scrummaging.

He earned 95 caps for Wales between 2003 and 2014, becoming a key figure in a golden era for Welsh rugby that included three Six Nations Grand Slam titles (2008, 2012, 2013).

Jones was also a British & Irish Lions stalwart, featuring as first-choice tighthead prop on the 2009 tour of South Africa and the victorious 2013 tour to Australia. Known for his technique, durability, and leadership in the set piece, Jones was the cornerstone of Wales’ front row for over a decade.

After retiring in 2018, Jones transitioned into coaching, quickly earning a reputation as one of the best scrum coaches in the business. He joined Harlequins in 2018, where his impact has been transformative, helping the team win the 2021 Premiership title while mentoring players such as Kyle Sinckler and Joe Marler.

Gatland on the Clock
After a torrid 2024 campaign that saw Wales fail to win a single match, Gatland has been handed the Six Nations to turn things around—or risk losing his job. The WRU’s post-mortem of last year’s dismal performances has included plans to bolster the coaching team. While Northampton Saints’ Matt Ferguson has been linked with the scrum coach vacancy, it’s believed Jones is the Union’s top choice.
