What happened next? Sir Clive Woodward's first five debutants

Starting in 1997, it wasn't all plain-sailing for the now legendary coach with it taking him five attempts to secure a win; hammering Wales 60-26 in the Five Nations Championship.

They went on to beat Scotland and Ireland, but that summer's trip to Australia proved a disaster. England lost all seven of their fixtures, including a 76-0 thrashing by the Wallabies.

In his very first game in charge, Woodward started five debutants in a 15-15 draw against the Wallabies at Twickenham.

It's fair to say they're all now enjoying pretty varied international careers:

He proudly won 36 caps for England, three for the Lions in Australia in 2001, and made an eye watering 221 appearances scoring 561 points for Bath Rugby between 1995 and his enforced retirement in 2007, at that point the Club’s longest serving player.

The utility back won 11 caps under Woodward between 1997 and 1999, scoring three tries. In 1999 he moved to Bristol, and moved to Leeds Tykes in 2003 after Bristol were relegated. Later, in 2006, he moved to Newbury R.F.C. In the 2008-2009 season he joined Clifton where he is still playing.

A tall, stylish and astute centre who had a particular penchant for scoring tries against Wales. Two Lions tours, but his finest hour was lifting the World Cup with England in 2003. He's now working as a pundit for Sky Sports

Woodward picked the 20-year-old on potential for his first match in charge against Australia. However, Long was replaced at half-time by Richard Cockerill, who then started the subsequent matches against New Zealand with Long on the bench.

Long however did not again enter the field of play. He thus seemed destined to become a "one cap wonder" until gaining a second cap against the United States in 2001 when most of the regular England players were away with the 2001 British Lions tour to Australia.

Green had previously played for various England youth teams alongside the likes of Will Greenwood, Matt Dawson, Simon Shaw and Richard Hill.

After making his England debut against Australia in November 1997, Green went on to make 4 appearances for the national team. He was considered an outside candidate to be part of Clive Woodward's ultimately victorious 2003 Rugby World Cup winning squad.

However, he was overlooked in the end, despite getting his 4th and final cap against Wales in one of England's warm up games prior to the World Cup, and being in the wider 43-man squad.
