Malcolm Marx could be heading back to South Africa, with two rival clubs now battling to secure his signature ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
The 32-year-old hooker is currently playing in Japan for Kubota Spears, but his future has become the subject of growing speculation.
And things have just got interesting.
According to South African newspaper Rapport, the Sharks have joined the Bulls in the race to sign the double World Cup winner.
The Bulls have reportedly been chasing Marx for around two months, but their rivals in Durban could now throw a serious spanner in the works.

Sharks enter race for Malcolm Marx

The Sharks' interest comes amid growing uncertainty surrounding fellow Springboks hooker Bongi Mbonambi.
As RUCK reported on Sunday, Mbonambi could have his contract terminated following an alleged breach of team rules.
The 35-year-old has reportedly been involved in a disciplinary process lasting several months, with a final decision expected within the next two weeks.
That has left the Sharks considering their options.
Head coach JP Pietersen, general manager Dave Williams and recruitment chief Ruan Jacobs have reportedly discussed the possibility of bringing Marx to Durban.
And let's be honest, there aren't many better replacements for Mbonambi.
Marx is the reigning World Rugby Player of the Year and has been a central figure in South Africa's recent success.
He helped the Springboks win back-to-back World Cups in 2019 and 2023, establishing himself as one of the most feared forwards in international rugby.

World Cup transfer complication

There is one fairly significant obstacle.
Marx remains contracted to Kubota Spears until June 2027, just months before the Rugby World Cup kicks off in Australia.
Any potential deal would therefore depend on his existing contract and the terms of a possible move.
The Bulls have already made their interest clear, although no agreement has been reached.
For now, Marx has a decision looming over his club future.
And with two of South Africa's biggest franchises reportedly interested, this could become one of the most fascinating transfer battles of the season.
