Sale 27-19 Harlequins: Premiership Cup final player ratings

Sale Sharks won the Premiership Cup by beating Harlequins in Monday nights final thanks mainly to the accurate boot of fly-half Rob du Preez.

With moments of brilliance few and far between, the South African held his nerve to slot with decisive kick six minutes from full-time.

James Chisholm’s try combined with 11 points from Marcus Smith gave Quins a 16-10 lead at the break with Curtis Langdon’s score and two kicks from Rob du Preez making up Sharks tally.

Another penalty from Smith pushed Paul Gustards’ men further in front, but a try from Dan du Preez, converted by brother Rob, set up a grandstand finish, 17-19.

The Sale Sharks then edged in front after Du Preez slotted a controversial penalty before Faf de Klerk’s terrific late try put the icing on the cake for Steve Diamond’s men.
