Her responsibilities will include supporting talent identification and player profiling, alongside providing specialist coaching in kicking and half-back play.
Mattinson will also coordinate specialist front-row skills and throwing provision across the pathway.
The former nine brings considerable international experience to the position, having represented Scotland at two Women’s Rugby World Cups, two WXV2 tournaments and three Six Nations campaigns.
She made her Scotland debut against Colombia during the 2021 Rugby World Cup, which was played in 2022, and also represented her country in sevens at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The appointment marks the next step in Mattinson’s coaching career following her retirement.
During her playing career, she gained coaching experience alongside her playing commitments before moving into coaching full-time.
She has since worked as Schools Rugby Manager at Banbury RFC and as an Academy Coach at Coventry Rugby.
Mattinson also worked with Scotland Women’s U21s during the 2026 Six Nations series.
Speaking about her appointment, Mattinson said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Scotland.
“I coached across a big range of environments throughout my playing career and since retiring have thrown myself into every opportunity that’s come my way.
“One of those opportunities was to be involved with Scotland U21s across the Six Nations period. I loved the chance to help shape the next generation and finished the campaign desperate for more time coaching that group.
“Being offered a full-time role in the pathway is an incredibly exciting next step in my coaching journey, and one that I hope allows me to not only positively impact the players coming through but also give me the chance to continue learning and pushing my career forward. I can’t wait to get started.”
