England star stood down with immediate effect ahead of Champions Cup return

England’s and Exeter’s Immanuel Feyi-Waboso will be unavailable for Sunday’s European Champions Cup trip to Toulouse but should be fit to feature in next month’s Nations Championship.
This comes after the 23-year-old came off early in the second-half in Exeter’s 34-28 Gallagher PREM win over Newcastle Red Bulls last Sunday.
But a scan for a hamstring injury has revealed that the speedster has a positive prognosis.
He missed this year’s Six Nations after another hamstring issue, but since the start of the 2026/27 PREM season, he has started in every league match against Gloucester, Bath and Newcastle.
Feyi-Waboso also appeared in the first part of the Nations Championship back in July, and scored against both Fiji and Argentina.
He was key for England in the summer, and that will be no different come November, when Steve Borthwick’s side faces Australia, Japan, and New Zealand at Allianz Stadium.
“How he’s reporting on it post-game, and yesterday (Tuesday), there is nothing I am hearing from our physios saying there should be a long-term issue,” Exeter Director of Rugby Rob Baxter told BBC Sport.
“Had a scan; he’s got some awareness there. The scan does not show up too much. It’s one of those things; scans tend to always show something, but actually, on testing, he’s very good.
“So we are hopeful that we can kind of almost treat the symptoms he’s showing and see where he gets to over the next week or so.”

Exeter and England in delicate times

Because the winger is a centrally contracted England player, the national side’s officials will have the final say on how he is treated. An England physio has assessed Feyi-Waboso, and the first Test against Australia takes place on November 8.
“We are in a delicate time for both parties, aren’t we? It’s a delicate time for us and a delicate time for England”, continued Baxter.

“We’re desperate for Manny to play because we have got some important games and England wants to be able to feature this autumn.
“Hopefully there won’t be any dispute based on we’ll just work on where Manny functionally is, how he feels he is, and we’ll take it that way.”
But the Feyi-Waboso injury couldn't have come at a worse time, as Exeter face the French champions away on Sunday afternoon. The Chiefs will travel to the South of France without all four of their first-choice wingers, as Feyi-Waboso joins Campbell Ridl, Olly Woodburn, and Paul Brown-Bampoe on the sidelines.
