Springboks powerhouse Eben Etzebeth has suffered another injury setback, with the Sharks confirming the veteran lock will miss their upcoming European tour.
The 34-year-old was forced off during Saturday's 39-22 defeat to the Stormers, sparking fresh concerns over his fitness.
Etzebeth has now been left out of the Sharks' 28-man touring squad as medical staff assess the extent of his latest injury.

Eben Etzebeth injury update

The Sharks have confirmed that Etzebeth is dealing with a lower-limb injury, although the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
In their official squad announcement, the Durban-based side issued a brief update.
"Lower limb injury – awaiting a further medical examination to determine the extent of the injury."
It means the two-time World Cup winner faces an anxious wait before learning how long he could be sidelined.
There is currently no confirmed return date.
The timing is far from ideal for Etzebeth, who has already endured a frustrating spell with injuries and concussion-related problems.

Springboks face anxious wait

The latest setback will also be closely watched by Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus.
Etzebeth remains one of South Africa's most influential forwards, bringing enormous experience and a physical edge few players can match.
With the autumn internationals approaching, Erasmus will be hoping the injury proves less serious than initially feared.
However, there has been no confirmation that Etzebeth will miss any international fixtures.
For now, the Sharks must prepare for their European assignments without one of their biggest names.
As RugbyPass reported, the club's medical update has left supporters waiting for a clearer picture of his recovery.
And for a player who has spent much of his career terrorising opposition forwards, another spell on the treatment table is the last thing he needs.
