Scotland vs England player ratings | 2020 Six nations

England won back the Calcutta Cup and kept their Six Nations title hopes alive with a turgid victory over Scotland in awful weather conditions.

The weather was no more forgiving as driving wind and rain caused chaos for both sides, leading to a string of errors throughout the match.

But replacement prop Ellis Genge barrelled home for the only try with 10 minutes remaining.

RUCK’S MAN OF THE MATCH – Sam Underhill England

All-action display from the Bath flanker whose breakdown work and tackling deservedly earned him the man of the match award.

BEST PLAYERS

Jamie George (England): The hooker was the away sides busiest defender as far as tackle-count, nearing 20 tackles by the end. He looked rejuvenated.

Stuart Hogg (Scotland): A class player. Gave more inspiration than braveheart tonight but sometimes tries to do too much. Got lucky when he carried it over.

George Kruis (England): On his return to the starting XV, the Saracens lock was efficient in the line-out and made a stunning 13 tackles in defence. He makes England better.

Hamish Watson (Scotland): High-energy display in topping the Scotland tackle count from the English-born flanker who was invalided out of the World Cup after just 37 minutes.

Maro Itoje (England): The second-row forced two turnovers with the power of his tackling, stole Scottish lineouts and was a thorn in Scotland’s side at the contact area

WORST PLAYERS

Willi Heinz (Scotland): Was he an improve on Ben Youngs? No. Poor box-kicking and slow distribution won him no fans on his first England start. Conceding three turnovers, he had an absolute mare.

Sam Johnson (Scotland): Charged after the kick-off and buried Jonny May. An abrasive carrier, as England know from a year ago, but was well contained, never getting into the game.
