Rugby Pass have ranked each of the Lions squad in a report as Warren Gatland's men reach the midpoint of the their tour of South Africa.
#WORST PLAYERS
#3. Stuart Hogg (Scotland)
Rugby Pass: "From a skill set point of view, there’s no reason why he can’t be locking down the 15 jersey, but both
Liam Williams and
Anthony Watson have shown their class already."
Our thoughts: Has a lot of work to do, but can start b
y impressing against the Stormers #2. Finn Russell (Scotland)
Rugby Pass: "Flashed a lot of his potential against the Sigma Lions, but will have his work cut out getting back to fitness and ousting Farrell or Biggar."
OUR THOUGHTS: Gatland and Russell always felt like the odd couple with the injuries scuppering any chance of a test place.
#1. Zander Fagerson (Scotland)
Rugby Pass: "A couple of errors here and there aside, Fagerson has been solid in his appearances for the Lions so far, but is potentially hurt by how well both his rivals at the position have been doing."
OUR THOUGHTS: Can't argue with the assessment. He's the one player in the squad who definitely won't be involved in the matchday 23 for the first test
#BEST PLAYERS
#3. Tadhg Beirne (Ireland)
Rugby Pass: "The versatile lock/blindside has looked comfortable in a red jersey and has brought a presence at the breakdown that the Lions have missed in matches without him. It"
Out thoughts: "So versatile, so durable, and
such a great jackaler."
#2. Maro Itoje (England)
Rugby Pass: "The English lock has been in excellent form at the set-piece and he has been one of the few Lions forwards to have consistent success."
Our thoughts: He is a force of nature. In a beaten team, he still makes a huge impact. In massive games, you know he will turn up.
#1. Josh Adams (Wales)
Rugby Pass: "he wing has been in clinical form and defensively has coped well with his responsibilities. It would be surprising to see him miss out at this point."
Our thoughts: Adams has developed from an out-and-out finisher into a roving wing who can influence games everywhere.
